iPhone 4 Review; Is It Worth Your Money

Since the Apple iPhone four was released it has generated tons of excitement and attention. The iPhone four shows a marked improvement on a number of features from previous smart phones from Apple. The first time you see and hold an iPhone four in your hands you will certainly notice that this is a product of class and sophistication. After the initial excitement wears off the rating of the iPhone four depends on the features it has, the ease of use and how it helps makes your life easier.

If you are interested in the iPhone4 this review would help you understand the main features of the iPhone 4 and what to be wary of.

Technical Details

First let us start with an overview of the technical details of the iPhone. It is made by Apple, comes with a 3.5 inches LCD IPS screen with a resolution of 640×960. The iPhone has 16GB of internal storage capacity and uses a 512 RAM. It has a 5 mega pixel camera for pictures and video recording, but does not come with a radio. It also has Wifi b/g/n, aGPS and BT 2.1+EDR. There is an iPhone TV connector provided for TV output. It has fairly loud speakers and an impressive battery life.

Design

The iPhone 4 scores high marks in design. If you have seen it you will readily agree that it has a sleek attractive design. It is extra thin compared to the previous iPhone 3GS. The power and volume buttons of the body are easy to feel and easy to use. The iPhone4 is said to be scratch proof. The material used to make the glass at the back is compared to sapphire, which virtually cannot be scratched. This helps the iPhone 4 to retain high resale value and keeps it still looking good after months of use. A drawback however is that the glass at the back is quite brittle. If you drop your iPhone4 a couple of times you may just crack it. We cannot complete a review on the iPhone4 design without mentioning the “bumper.” This innovation was designed to reduce the effect of shocks when the iPhone gets dropped. The bumper is a piece of plastic that is attached all around the iPhone 4. It covers the steel band and comes in a variety of colors.

Hardware

The iPhone 4 utilizes the Apple A4 processor (same used on the iPAd) and comes with a 512 RAM (twice that on iPhone 3GS). For people who like multi tasking this is an advantage as it means that the extra memory will help accommodate several tasks at high speeds. The iPhone 4 comes with a retina display and a 960×640 resolution. This makes it clearer and sharper that the iPhone 3GS and most of the other competitor brands. The retina display is very useful for small texts and makes it much easier to read when using the web or reading emails and ebooks on the iPhone 4. There is also a smart virtual keyboard which makes it a bit easier to use the keyboard when typing SMS and emails.

You may have heard about the controversy generated by the faulty antennae reception issues associated with the iPhone 4. A lot have been said about it recently and this is one of the main drawbacks of the iPhone 4. When in use, the two wifi and 3G antennas are bridged by the human contact and this affects the quality of the reception and data speeds. This has been referred to as the death grip and it is worse off in areas were signal coverage is already weak. The death grip can be avoided by holding or using the iPhone 4 in a way that avoids bridging the two antennas, or by using an iPhone case. Apple has even recently announced that it will be offering free iPhone cases to all owners of the iPhone 4 to help them around this problem.

All in all, the iPhone 4 is a high level smart phone. It looks good, feels good to use, offers simple and functional navigation and is also quite good for multitasking. Data speed is commendable and the audio quality is fairly good. The iPhone 4 scores a healthy 8/10 in my evaluation and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
