Genetic Resources Center
Postdoctoral Fellow: Assessing Genetic Integrity of Genebank Accessions
RRI is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to undertake genotyping for the purpose of assessing the genetic integrity of accessions and the extent of duplication among accessions held in the International Rice Genebank and those of the same name held in other collections such as those at WARDA and CIAT. It involves identifying a set of suitable markers (SSR or SNP), genotyping these markers on chosen materials, and analyzing the results using genetic diversity and population genetic tools. The results will serve as the basis for defining the best practices and operations that will minimize the loss of genetic integrity and duplication. The position has a duration of 3-years; the incumbent will report to the Molecular Geneticist at the T.T.C. Genetic Resources Center.

Responsibilities
The incumbent will primarily be responsible for: 1) identifying SSRs and SNPs that are suitable for assessing genetic integrity and extent of duplication; 2) genotyping these on samples of accessions that have been acquired by regeneration over time or accessions that are potential duplicates; 3) performing analyses of genetic diversity and population genetics to measure the genetic integrity and extent of duplication; and 5) define the best practices to sustain the genetic integrity of accessions and minimize duplication within and among genebanks.

Qualifications
Candidates should have 1) a PhD in molecular biology, quantitative genetics and crop breeding; 2) experience with software for genetic diversity assessment; 3) excellent communication skills; and 4) the capacity to be a team player to work with diverse and demanding research partners.

Perquisites and IRRI environment
The position will be located at IRRI headquarters at Los BaƱos, 70 kilometers south of Manila, Philippines. IRRI offers salary and perquisites that are internationally competitive, including support for education of children, transport allowance, and medical benefits. IRRI provides a gender-sensitive environment and welcomes women applicants. Citizens of developing countries, particularly rice-producing countries, are encouraged to apply. The Institute is committed to assisting families in making personal and, to the extent possible, professional adjustments to the local environment. IRRI has an accredited international school and excellent preparatory schools for younger children are available locally.

Applications
Applicants should send via email a comprehensive curriculum vitae and names and email addresses of three referees to:
